It was a normal day like any other. It was that time of the year – first you work a little late hours then all you do is just work :)…. Pleasures of being an accountant.
Typical un predictable Dallas weather was freezing cold in the morning and in the evening, as I walked out of the elevator to the parking lot, it was hot, humid and windy (what a combination). Dallas adds some tinge of change constantly to your life!!.
Got onto the car –ignition- lights on – Noticed something like a parking ticket on the on the windscreen. Muttered to myself –oh not that these property guys again – letting me know I parked before the authorized parking area. Decided to not get down and see what it was.. and drive with it (lazy me)… down 2 floors the wind managed to move that a little above blocking my view….. umm I resigned – had to move that ticket .. thought to myself might as well as read what it says.
Got off switched off the light, reached for the peace of paper. Phew!! was not a notice for unauthorized parking, was some crap flyer asking if I wanted a 100K plus job (Like who is ever gona say no to that!!). The truth about all these adds are these ppl want to make a 100K by promising a 100K jobs.. haa haa.
Into the car again, thinking to myself this is no good – my routines broken!!! (See there is strange rule of mind routine, when u do something always do one way and these “not in the route pit stops” – meant not too good news for me – I am like this absent minded professor)
On to 75 in a jiffy – and called Subha –yaaped away to glory, cribbed about the economy, the panic, India, going back, whats in store – the usual talk which never seemed to end btwn us and ever green a topic that u never seem to get disinterested about.
Had to stop at the mail box.. clicked on the indicator for the left – got a glimpse of the COPS shimmering lights at the back of another car – sighed – phew that god its not me he is after. Finally got into my complex and what you know next – The lights are behind me – Holly !@#$$... What did I do now, OMG, first time ever… abruptly hanged the phone of Shuba with a shout of the word COP…
Ran through all the questions – what –Speed, Seat belts, indicator, waited for the left…was in the correct lane (trust me I have done that too)…. Mind was racing with these thoughts.. Then I pull up –put my panic lights on (now I know why they call it the panic lights!!).
What am I to do – do I get out go to him like I would to the India cops???.. naa –seen too many of the L&W episode were COPS here get freaked out with any movement. Waited for him to come, to give me a ticket!!. I would have gladly traded the building ticket for this one.
There he came – “Men in Black”, All tall handsome, smartly shaved (At that moment – my mind had to notice that – Gosh – what is it with Uniforms and clean shaven men that makes them look like Zeus walking on earth – at least this one looked like that).
I lowered my window and he asks – “Is there any reason you don’t have your lights on ???” (dud and I knew then I was in for one). I said “Cha” and “sorry about that – I forgot!!”. What a reply to a cop – forgot!! If there was any hope left for me to smile my way out – there I sealed it and nailed it to a 0 chance.
His next question – “Do they work”. Can you believe it; I waited for him to ask if they worked to switch it back on. There he saw it for him self it worked.(Till date I am convinced I am not gone do any good with men in uniform, and acting sanely with them and why ppl spill the beans when they ask).
“You could have harmed people by this act” and I was about to complete the sentence – and myself too … (thankfully shut up to save the little of wat was left).
I was waiting for the obvious – DL and Insurance. He asked for them and I promptly furnished them. He said if I had got any warrants. What Warrants – I never did any crime – what was he talking about. Then a minute of clarification –with a look of innocence all over my face, the pleading look, got to know it was a American term for a TICKET.
Well the rest all went smoothly, NO I didn’t get a ticket, clean shaven good looking COP, in black uniform never game me one. For what ever reason god knows– plus side to this– I will continue to be a fan of the Men in Black.. at least for now. :)

Legal POT!!!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29374351/
Read this news recently and the whole hul-chal about it on Glen Beck.. who apparently has taken Weed and latter got out of it…..There was this talk about $ amounts that could be gained and how much each state can add to their coffers to make them more heavier. (if they could legalise and tax them). Of course the whole talk about RESPONSIBLE ACTION (one most often abused WORD).
If alone California gets its way in this centuries old debate, floodgates will be open.
Speaking for the people who want to legalize, well to their credit, if alcohol and smoking nicotine is fine why not great Taboo herb. At the cost of sounding clichéd “people can think and make decisions for themselves” if they want to do something its no business of any uncle Sam or any Gov to tell them what not to do.
On the other hand - You certainly don’t want the streets to be peppered with blood shot eyed, dazed “dudes and dudets” and getting a free pass of temporary insanity for what they do “under the influence”
I strongly believe in “there are consequences for every action”. Indeed if there are any for the great Weed, who bears the consequences. YOU, ME or those who don’t use the Big M.
At the end of the day to me certain things may be centuries old temptations and they are best left as temptations and not a legal temptations. For one thing I kn for sure – LAW enforcement has its price to pay too, why add to the load which we already are carrying.
